Mission & Vision
MACS' mission is to build student leaders who serve their community with character. We involve our students in their own learning process, so that they become creative, self-motivated problem solvers – individuals who can meet the challenges of higher education & the employment market of the 21st century. Technology and the humanities will be infused across the curriculum.
We believe the most effective way to provide a meaningful educational experience is through a project-based, collaborative approach. Our students learn by doing. They work in small groups on academically rigorous, multidisciplinary projects designed to be practical and relevant to their lives.
Our Vision Morris Academy was created by a team of teachers, parents & community-based organizations to provide the youth of South Bronx with an innovative, college-preparatory program. MACS serves one of America's poorest communities – the 16th Congressional District.
As a New Century High School - a partnership between New Visions for NYC and the DOE - MACS primary goal is to produce responsible, contributing members of society through a participatory educational process. We are dedicated to:
- A standards-driven, project based rigorous academic/vocational environment.
- Fostering analytical thinking in order to develop independent decision-making skills
- Maintaining an academic environment that addresses the needs of all learners
- Integrating civic and academic activities to encourage student participation in the world community
At MACS, we involve all our students in their own learning process so that they become self-motivated, creative problem solvers who can meet the challenges of college and the job market of the new century.
